    Hi Dustin,
I like this, the perspective is good and you have some good anatomy going on here. The only thing I would do is bring out the highlights more where I circled and develop the contrast more. The beam of light would wash out most of the color where it shines on the bodies.

Good composition, I like the understated color here. The figure of the boy on the right seems wrong somehow — I think his head may be too big for his body. The girl’s head may be a bit too big as well, but it doesn’t bother me as much because the boy seems to lack a neck, as well. The ray of light has a spectral quality and almost looks like water. I do think that the figures would be a bit lighter where the beam hits them, and if it is really coming from the upper left, I think the boy’s face would be more shadowed.

Thanks Al! I intentionally play with the scale of the heads, but I will be working on the lighting today.

Nice piece, I think further simplifying the shapes like you did with the columns and the girl’s dress on our left would greatly enhance the piece!

Hey Dustin, thanks for sharing your image. My one comment would be to push the lighting down a bit on the boy sitting on the steps (right side.) If his highlights are just slightly pushed down, then we’ll continue to generate a lot of focus on the characters on the throne. It would also be good to push the contrast between the highlight hitting the armrest of the throne and the ground below it, maybe slightly darken the floor of the space and play with a little rim lighting on the children surrounding the throne. Really great work so far–

I WOULD LIKE HELP WITH

I am working on this oil painting, I would love to hear some reactions or thoughts. I am on the fringes of illustration, working on a body of work for the contemporary gallery scene. I have been slowly glazing in a few colors, but I really like the warm underpainting.
